100 Points for Chutzpah

Jury deliberations begin this morning in the Rudy Kurniawan trial. Kurniawan’s attempted sale of several dozen allegedly fraudulent Domaine Ponsot bottles at an Acker Merrall auction in 2008 set in motion the events that ultimately led to his arrest four years later. ¬†As Kurniawan sat in jail awaiting his fate, here’s what John Kapon was drinking last night:

Had I changed gears sooner, I might have staved off the drop.
When posting it is always important that the subject you

There’s always what we call “celebrations don’t last forever”.

Kapon appeared again on CNBC Business Network and gave his rousing and self serving opinion of the tremendous value of buying and collecting fine wines. It’s amazing that these idiots would have HIM on despite what is already known of the true value of his Opinion.

Not to throw fuel on the fire but was that the 1990 Ponsot label? I know Ponsot used that label in the Eighties and in 1991 when I started buying Ponsot wines it was a different label close to the current label. Did Ponsot possibly use two labels in the same vintage? When did he change labels? I know R&V Dauvissat use two different labes on at least some of their Chablis in the same vintage for tax reasons I have beenm told. I do have 95 and 96 Le Clos from them in my cellar with the other labels.

I have to assume that the tweet was essentially a raised middle finger aimed at Jason Hernandez, Jim Wynne, and Laurent Ponsot, and I guess Laurent took it as such.

The fact that he posted those wines on Twitter does not seem to indicate to me that he fears any future Prosecution. Maybe this screen shot is just his reaction to Koch’s “He’s out of here comment.”
People who legitimately fear the “Big Eye” do not generally flaunt their excessive and questionable Freedom. I sincerely doubt that he cares about anyone’s caustic reaction to his FU.

Ponsot took it as a taunting gesture.
Both producers played heavy in this case.
JK has some nerve being this much of an ass when he is one that sold so many of Rudy’s counterfeit wines, and wrote so many lies about him and his ‘magic cellar’ to entice bidders to buy those counterfeits.
The arrogance of this guy is unbelievable. Well, maybe THAT is a stretch, it is utterly believable – equally disgusting.

That it’s a Ponsot just heightens the chutzpah.

As the year nears its end, how nice to get a nod from you, Mike, on my Rudy coverage. And I know that it was true and objective, and has nothing to do with that half bottle of R-C ’45 (the only one made) that I shared with you at a Chinatown boite, at lunch recess, over a steaming dish of chicken gizzards over rice!

    Unbelievable!

I think Karma will get the best of him one day.
