Deputy Editor, Wine Diarist
2013 January 14
I hired a deputy editor over the weekend. His name is Patches, he is 10 weeks old, and as you can see, he is a true Burghound. He is also partial to rawhide treats and Ridge and adores the biscuity aroma that you often find in mature Champagnes. He is an MW (Master of Woof), rates wines on a 0-5 wag scale, and plans to start posting tasting notes as soon as he is done potty training.

Love your new colleague! He appears to have great taste!
What type of dog is he and what is that he is pairing with the wine? He will be great wine drinking company since he’ll likely leave most of it to you (although I had a dog once that was partial to scotch = not a good thing.)
Deputy Dawg, as it were. Enjoy! (And marvel at his incredible sense of smell.)
I’m looking forward to those tasting notes Mike; since it appears that Patches is not a pointer.
I wouldn’t trust the palate of a puppy. Dogs are notoriously indiscriminating no matter how well potty trained. Cute – yes, discriminating – no. The dogs’ audience is children and children at heart. If you want a discriminating palate and an unbiased, incorruptible critique, get a cat. They are FEOs (Feline Expert Oenophiles). And they don’t need no stinking scales.
Adorable!!! Can I borrow him? My cats are a big help. But I think he might be even better
Very sweet. Hope this helps *relieve* you of some of your *duties* (two words you’re going to be hearing a lot of in the coming months!). Enjoy the puppy-moon. Pooch has good taste in wine.
Oh jeez… adorable.
Dog-gone-it!
That’s a job I wanted.
What a cutie, I can’t wait to hear of his drinking exploits.
All the best,
Nannette Eaton
