What Wine to Pour When The President Comes to Dinner?

President Obama is holding a fundraising dinner tonight at New York’s Restaurant Daniel. Earlier today, I tweeted Daniel Johnnes, who oversees wine for Daniel Boulud’s restaurant empire, and asked what he was planning to pour the president. Johnnes tweeted back to say he’d be serving Obama a Sandhi chardonnay (I assume other wines are on the menu, but Johnnes didn’t cough up any additional names). Sandhi is a new label from sommelier Raj Parr, and makes pinot noirs and chardonnays using fruit from Santa Barbara county. Just a quick note to congratulate Raj; debuts don’t get much more auspicious than that. I’m hoping Obama, who carries a Blackberry, will tweet a tasting note during the dinner.
